Language Festival V 2023

It's been a while. Let's jump straight into it.

Before starting a war, you have to make preparations. Our preparations began early in November as we were planning our move thoroughly in order to make this happen. We wanted to host another festival and as usual, we wanted our festival to be grand and most importantly, fun! Neu, our club president at the time, suggested that we host a fair-like festival in which participants were to collect points in order to redeem prizes like you would at a fair or a carnival! This idea seemed interesting and we decided to make it happen!

Weeks of writing and planning and finally, once we were prepared, we began with the war. The war to ensure that this festival becomes reality. We call this war, ‘Meeting Atap’. After winning the initial war and securing approval to host our 5th Language Festival, we begin another war. This second war is called ‘preparation’. Stick around to see us stumble throughout the entire beginning of the year in order to prepare for the Festival!

Since our second war began as soon as our first ended, we had no time whatsoever to recover and had to start as soon as possible. So, while stumbling about, we tried our best to prepare the festival while being understaffed and struggling amongst ourselves. It was hell! But there’s always a silver lining in every hardship. There were several times where we felt like giving up and canceling the entire event but Dini, our club vice president, was determined to make the festival a success and with her lead, we were able to keep going!

Let’s look at our preparations now! We started with shopping! Finally a fun and relaxing activity no? We had our list and only time to battle in order to secure every item needed for the event! So our first stop? MitsuI! We wanted to visit Typo to find some stationeries but once we entered Typo there was NOTHING and we were already feeling down from a big fat failure on our first stop but we immediately made a rebound when we saw Beryl’s! The chocolate store!!! Immediately, we stepped foot into the store and started picking out all sorts of chocolates to fill our prize booth with!

After filling our baskets with chocolates! We felt as if we’d accomplished something big and were relieved! Finally! Most of the prize booth was covered even if it was mostly chocolates but hey! Who doesn’t enjoy chocolates right?

Moving on, we decided to pay Daiso a visit since it’s a great store to get gifts for the prize booth! I mean everything for RM6? What a steal! We mostly ended up buying a ton of bottles which would go well for the prize booth. It was perfect.

Our next and final stop for the day (since we were short on time) was Eco Shop! The best go-to store for knick knacks and tidbits! The perfect store to visit in order to find more items for our prize booth. We filled up the basket in no time with all sorts of goodies fit for the prize booth and once we couldn’t fit in anymore it was time to pay up.

That was the end of our shopping experience for the day.

We continued on with the war the night before the event. We had just received the buntings for the event and we had to set all of these up by ourselves. It was almost 10pm, a handful of students still on campus, when all the lights were off. How spooky~ One by one we set-up each bunting on every pillar, students climbing the pillars in order to tie the bunting up and finally we had all buntings hung on every pillar we wanted it to be on. We ended at almost 12am and home we went!

After an anxious night, it was finally D-Day of the festival! Things were coming along well despite the hiccups here and there. Students were actively joining every game and every game was well set up in every location we intended them to be in. It was smooth sailing for the first day.

The 2nd day, it was more exciting with some fun activities we had held at the foyer. Students were participating in these activities and making the event much more livelier. The language festival bazaar was also doing well. Things were holding up quite well. Even the running man games which was suggested by Dini were going smoothly despite starting a little late. It was a lively event overall for the 2nd day of the festival!

Finally it was the last day of the festival! This was the most exciting day for our theater team as they had been practicing for weeks for this performance. Silence, and ACTION! Our theater team went all out with their performance. The acting, the storyline, the emotions, the tears! Oh! So exciting! So much despair and sadness! It was perfect! Aside from the theater performance, another exciting event happened! The prize booth was FULLY REDEEMED and it wasn’t even 2pm yet! Amazing! It was great to know that students participated so actively that we didn’t even have enough prizes for all of them! We will definitely prepare more prizes for next events to come!

Congratulations everyone! The language festival v has finally come to an end. So many emotions and energy went into making this event happen and once it ended, everything felt fleeting. Oh how time passes. Language Club will be sure to deliver an even exciting event in the future.

Thank you for sticking around and reading this silly blog of the festival. We appreciate people like you!

Here's some pictures of some winners!
